Think about where you were 5 years ago. Is your life drastically different now or are you still doing the same old things the same old ways? If that’s what you like, then that’s awesome!

But if you are looking to change things up a bit, I encourage you to keep reading. You may just find the inspiration and courage you need to make a big change in your life.

When I decided to focus on my goals, I needed a little inspiration. I remembered I had bought a book probably 10 years ago. It looked interesting, but I never really read through it, just stuck it on the shelf to get dusty. But that was it! That was the inspiration I needed now. So here I am 10 years later, digging through boxes to find that book.

Where Will You Be 5 Years From Today? is a book written by Dan Zadra. You will take a look at yourself and what you really want out of life. With tons of great inspirational quotes, it really gives you the encouragement to “live your life on purpose” and go after your dreams. Use this book and the information in it as a springboard towards taking action on your goals.

Look at the past to plan the future

When I look back at where we were 5 years ago I would say we have made a lot of great things happen for us, but it wasn’t without struggles. I started a new career, we had our daughter and bought a new house. We also had a miscarriage, were flooded during Hurricane Harvey, and my father passed away. There were some difficult times along the way and things didn’t always go as planned. But overall we have been able to grow our lives for the better.

When you look at the last 5 years, are you happy with the way things have gone? If not you can start today to make changes in your life and turn it into the life you’ve always wanted.

Your Bucket List

To plan where you want to be in the future, you have to know what you want. A bucket list is the way to do it. Make a list of anything you have ever wanted to do or want to do in your lifetime. It can literally be anything. Even if you have no idea how you could ever make it happen, put it on your list.

These are the things you have always dreamed of. There is no limit to what your bucket list can be, it’s all about you! Have you always wanted to go to another country? Learn a new skill? Meet a certain person? What are the things that would make your heart happy and fulfill your soul? That’s your bucket list.

Make your own 5-Year Plan

Sometimes you don’t have to know how something will happen, you just have to know what you want and have faith that it will happen. Sometimes a way will be made that you never even thought of. You know that old saying “where there’s a will there’s a way”. That’s what I’m talking about! Don’t be afraid to plan BIG.

  • Use our Life Wheel Worksheet in the Resource Library to take a look at the major areas of your life. Get access here.
  • Come up with a goal for each area that you would like to reach in the next 5 years.
  • The best way to reach big goals is to break them down into smaller more manageable goals. What steps do you need to take to reach that goal? Make each year’s goal one step. So each year you are working on a step towards your one big goal.
  • Each year, break down your yearly goal into 12 monthly goals. And each month you will take a step towards reaching your yearly goal.
  • Be sure to re-evaluate yourself often to make sure you are still on track towards reaching your big goals.
