Reach Your Goals and Dreams With A Road Map

Setting goals is essential to get you where you want to be. You have to have goals in life, otherwise, you will be wandering around aimlessly. Think of it this way, if life is a journey, then your goals are the roadmap to get you where you want to be. Set yourself on the right track by planning out your goals.

Planning your goals and making them happen is much like planning for a road trip. You have one big destination that you want to get to, but you also have to plan for pit stops along the way.

Your big goals are your final destination along your road map.

Where are you going?

First, determine what your goals are. Is there something you have been wanting to do, but haven’t figured out how to make it happen? It helps to have a clear picture of what you want. If you feel like you need to get some mental clarity read this post on how to “Organize Your Life And Clear The Chaos”. It will help you get a clear picture of what you want in all areas of your life.

How Long Will It Take To Reach Your Destination?

Is your goal long term or short term? A long term goal may take you a year, several years, or a lifetime to complete. A short term goal may take a day, week, month, or year. Determine how long it may take (and how much time you want to spend) working towards your goal.

Plan For Pit Stops

Getting to your big goal will be much easier if you break it up into smaller goals or steps. Determine the smaller steps it will take to get to your big goal. Then assign those smaller goals an amount of time to be completed. So for example, if you plan to get to your big goal in 1 year, each of your smaller goals may take you 1-2 months to complete.

Follow The Mile Markers

A mile marker tells you where you are on your journey and how much farther you have to go. For each goal determine the action steps to help you complete that goal. Action steps are things you actually DO, the steps you take, that help you move forward towards completing that goal.

Prepare For Road Blocks

Every so often, re-evaluate where you are along your journey. Are you still on the right path? Have you veered off course or run out of gas? It’s almost certain that you will hit some roadblocks along the way. It’s ok, you have to recognize it and get yourself back on track.
