My Goals are Too High: What to Do If You Are Setting Your Goals Too High

If you see that you are setting your goals too high, here are a few ways may help you reach your goals. These steps may not work for everyone, but they can be an easy way to assess and look at a variance in your goal-setting.

Set clear goals

Be specific on what exactly the goal is that you want to reach and how you will reach them. Not only should you identify the goal, but you should also identify the steps you will take to reach your goal.

Understand that if you can’t see a clear path to hitting your goals, you might need to rethink the path that you want to take to get there.

Do not set unrealistic goals

This is a big one and one of the main reasons why many people fail to reach their goals and get discouraged. Instead, set realistic goals for yourself. Once you have decided on your goal and the time frame on when you want to accomplish it, really think about if you have given yourself enough time to achieve it.

For instance, let’s say you have set a goal to run a mile in a certain amount of time. If you have never run before, there is a good probability that you are going to fail. Ease yourself into it and take it one step at a time seeing how far you can get. Then improve and try harder as you continue preparing each day.

Do not have too many goals

If you have a ton of goals on your list or have set a very large and complicated goal, scale it back just a tad and break it up into sections. As you complete each of the smaller goals, you will feel more accomplished as you do them and will be encouraged to go even further.

It’s also a good idea to take one goal at a time and then build off of that goal to turn it into another goal. This can be a great motivator on how you approach goal setting and can push you to achieve bigger and better goals in the future.

Make sure you have the right resources to accomplish your goals

Every goal that you want to reach has various steps and preparation that you will need to take to reach it. Make sure you have the right resources needed to reach your goal.

Why limit yourself when you don’t have to? Achieving a goal doesn’t mean that you need to limit how you hit that goal. It just means that you need to allow yourself every chance and opportunity instead.

Be prepared

Preparation is key to reaching any goal and this can go hand in hand with having the right resources you need. It is also important to remain flexible but still determined. Prepare for things that are out of your control or things that can go wrong will also be helpful.

There will be things that go wrong. It’s just how life works. But when you acknowledge that and are prepared for that, it can make the entire process that much easier to get over and through.

Allow yourself grace

Most of all, don’t forget that you’re doing your best. Some things really do just take time to reach. The more pressure that you put on yourself to hit goals that are attainable, the more pressure and stress that you’re going to feel.

Allowing yourself the understanding that goals take time can be a great way to hit your goals when the time is right. Rushing to hit a goal may not be quite the success that you thought it was going to be.

When it comes to figuring out if your goals are too high, take a step back and look at these tips. You’re going to want to really understand that you can easily achieve your goals as long as you have the right attitude and mindset to do so.

And if you find that you can’t hit your goals, then you can take a look at those goals again and figure out a different way to structure or approach them. Believing in yourself and your abilities can be a positive way to tackle and goal that you set in front of you. With these tips, you may never think “my goals are too high” ever again.
